SendSquared Access Point Setup Instructions

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your SendSquared WiFi access points. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure proper configuration and optimal performance.

Prerequisites

Before beginning the setup process, ensure you have:

  • SendSquared access point hardware
  • Active internet connection
  • Mobile device or computer for configuration

SendSquared offers two installation methods:

  1. Pre-programmed UniFi Hardware - Our plug-and-play solution. Simply unbox, connect, and mount your access point. The device comes pre-configured with your network settings and automatically connects to your virtual controller.

  2. Manual Configuration - For advanced users who need to flash and configure UniFi hardware manually against the virtual controller. This method provides complete control over all settings and configurations.

Initial Hardware Setup

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect

  1. Carefully remove the access point from its packaging
  2. Verify all components are included - see our detailed Package Contents Guide for a complete list with images
  3. Check for any physical damage
  4. Ensure you have the correct regional power adapter

Step 2: Choose Installation Location

Select an optimal location for your access point:

  • Central location within coverage area
  • Away from interference sources (microwaves, cordless phones)
  • Elevated position (wall or ceiling mount)
  • Within reach of power outlet and ethernet connection
  • Avoid enclosed spaces or metal obstructions

Step 3: Physical Installation

  1. If wall mounting:

    - Mark mounting holes using template
    - Drill pilot holes
    - Install mounting bracket
    - Secure access point to bracket
  2. If ceiling mounting:

    - Locate ceiling joist or use appropriate anchors
    - Install mounting bracket
    - Secure access point to bracket

Network Configuration

Step 1: Connect to Network

  1. Connect ethernet cable from access point to your router/switch
  2. Connect power adapter to access point
  3. Wait 2-3 minutes for boot sequence to complete
  4. LED indicators should show:
    • Power: Solid green
    • Network: Solid green or blue
    • WiFi: Blinking or solid (depending on model)

Step 2: Manual Configuration (Optional)

For manual configuration and setup:

  • See our manual configuration guide
  • This guide covers all the steps needed to get your unit connected and flashed to your virtual controller

Testing and Verification

Step 1: WiFi Coverage Test

  1. Use mobile device with WiFi analyzer app
  2. Walk through property checking signal strength
  3. Target signal strength: -67 dBm or better
  4. Note any dead zones for additional AP placement

Step 2: Speed Test

  1. Connect to each network (main and guest)
  2. Run speed tests from multiple locations
  3. Verify speeds meet expectations
  4. Document results for baseline

Step 3: Device Connection Test

Test various device types:

  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Laptops
  • Smart TVs
  • IoT devices
